Zampieri on pole, Valsecchi crashes
Daniel Zampieri (Ferrari F458) took the first pole of the International GT Open season. SMP Racing Italian driver (pictured) set the fastest time of 1.57.500 in the very last seconds of a closely-fought session, which saw Nick Catsburg (SRT Corvette) finishing second, 249 thousandths behind. César Ramos (Corvette V8) and Andrea Montermini (Ferrari-Villorba) will be in row 2, ahead of Stefano Gattuso (Ferrari-Ombra), who took the GTS pole, and Tomas Enge in a Lamborghini Gallardo.
Davide Valsecchi, who finished seventh at his debut in the series, suffered a heavy accident as he lost the car in the chicane after the Stadium, hitting hard the tires backwards. The Lambo of Eurotech Engineering is heavily damaged and will not take part to today’s race. The Italian driver walked away on his feet from the car and was brought to the medical center for checks, but he seems OK.
