Verstappen sets final fastest time

On the second and final day of pre-season testing of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship at Red Bull Ring, teams and drivers were able to continue their preparation for the season that will get underway in only a few days. Max Verstappen (Van Amersfoort Racing) – who is contesting his maiden season in motor racing –  was fastest as he set the time of 1:23.690. Behind him finished Tom Blomqvist (Jagonya Ayam with Carlin), who clocked 1:23.930 ahead of his team mate Antonio Giovinazzi and the two Carlin‘s drivers Edward Jones and Jordan King, fifth and sixth respectively.

Rookie driver Antonio Fuoco (Prema Powerteam) ended up eight behind of Felix Rosenqvist (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport). Ninth was Mitch Gilbert (Fortec Motorsports), while Riccardo Agostini (Eurointernational) rounded up the top 10 and was just four hundredths slower than Rosenqvist, who was the best-placed driver with a Mercedes-powered Dallara.

On the two days of testing in the Austrian province of Styria, 25 young drivers set lap times faster than the existing Formula 3 lap record of 1:25.921, established by Felix Rosenqvist last year.

The 2014 season of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship gets underway with the first three races at the British Formula 1 circuit of Silverstone next week.
