Two top six for Chevalier

There were mixed feelings for Hugo Chevalier after the third round of the French F4 Championship organised near Nimes… The Haut-Savoyard driver knew that he would have been able to aim for a podium finish with better qualification. But in adversity, Hugo again demonstrated his single-seater driving skills and temperament by scoring 5th and 6th places during his weekend in the south of France.

At Lédenon, the gap was only three-tenths to the lead driver in the official Qualifying session, but it was enough to relegate Hugo Chevalier to 8th. More drivers were very close in terms of performance and this decided Qualifying. A tenth faster would have put me in 5th place! I must continue to work on this specifically – confessed Hugo.

Race 1 would also affect the day for Hugo Chevalier. While fighting in the chasing pack and hoping to get back to the leader, he was penalised with a drive-through (pit stop) for exceeding the track limits. Demoted to 12th position at the finish, he was also forced to start in that spot for Race 2.

Although determined not to stop there, the High Savoyard started to attack his opponents. It was a great race, very lively. I completed several overtakes and I was able to go back to 6th position.

In Race 3, Hugo Chevalier continued to pay for his modest qualifying. My lap times were still very close to the drivers who finished on the podium, but the race did not go as I hoped. I lost time in the pack and I could not do any better than 9th. Also, the race director wanted to punish me again, but video footage showed that I was not at fault.

Refining the focus of his Signatech Renault F4 car with technicians, and physically and mentally with Didier André, his coach, Hugo Chevalier wanted to finish on a positive note at the Gard meeting and came from 9th to 5th place in Race 4. A result more in line with his ambitions… the day of his 16th birthday!

I did not have the opportunity to get on the podium at Lédenon. I will continue to analyze my performance and work to improve on this result on 9th and 10th July at Magny-Cours. I remain well placed in the Championship, with a provisional 4th place a few points off 2nd, which is important – concluded Hugo.
