Toyota announced its Super GT programme
Toyota Motor Corporation announced its motorsport activities for 2014 Super GT series. In the GT500 class, the manufacturer will participate as Lexus Racing. With the changes made to standardize technical regulation with DTM, Lexus Racing is fielding brand new Lexus RC F powered by a 2-liter four-cylinder direct injection gasoline turbo engine.
Concerning the drivers, the reigning champions Yuji Tachikawa and Kohei Hirate (picture) will continue to share the Team Zent Cerumo’s Lexus. Drivers’ combination will remain the same as the last year also for LeMans Eneos (Yuji Kunimoto-Kazuya Oshima), Petronas Tom’s (Kazuki Nakajima-James Rossiter), and – as we reported yesterday – KeePer Tom’s (Andrea Caldarelli-Daisuke Ito). Newcomer Oliver Jarvis will join Hiroaki Ishiura at Team Sard. All of these five cars are confirmed to wear Bridgestone tires as the last year. Team WedsSport Bandoh has still to annouce its drivers.
In the GT300 class, a Toyota Prius GT with a hybrid system will be fielded in the competition as Toyota Racing. Drivers’ lineup will stay the same with Morio Nitta and Koki Saga (who brought the first pole position to Prius).
