Teams test at Zandvoort for 2014 BoP

The team of the GT4 European Series made last Tuesday and Wednesday their first kilometeres of the year in the two-day testing at Zandvoort, using the new Hankook tires, as Nico Verdonck was at the wheel of several GT4 cars for the 2014 Balance of Performance.

More than 20 cars are expected at the start of the series, scheduled for the weekend of 10 and 11 May at Misano (Italy). Las Moras Racing Team brings three cars: two Camaro’s and a BMW M3 GT4. Only one Camaro made it to Zandvoort, and was driven by all four drivers Luc Braams, Duncan Huisman, Marcel Nooren and Jan Joris Verheul, who made the transfer from Racing Team Holland. For GT4-veterans Nooren and Verheul it was the first time to drive the Camaro.

Liesette Braams and her teammate Rob Severs made the first meters with their BMW as well. Nova Race registered four of the in total 12 Ginetta’s for the GT4 European Series and brought those to Zandvoort. The Ginetta’s are not the most powerful cars on the grid, but they’re light and have a nice handling, so our laptimes are good. We had two good days and I’m convinced that we can fight for places on the overall podium. – team owner Luca Magnoni said. Ginetta Cars from the United Kingdom brought a new Ginetta G55 to the Dutch dunes and ended up first with a quickest lap of 1:46.717.

Racing Team Holland by Ekris Motorsport puts two BMW’s M3 GT4 on the grid and Ricardo van der Ende is behind the wheel of the car with number 1. Teammates are Dutch royal princes Bernhard and Pieter-Christiaan van Oranje, who go for their fifth year in GT4-racing.

Besides Ekris, another BMW dealer will participate in the GT4 European Series. André Grammatico from France will be driving a BMW M3 GT4 by his own. Grammatico prepared himself for the new season by doing 71 laps in total during the Balance of Performance. Frans Verschuur handed over his Nissan 370Z to the SRO-team to balance it for 2014. An Aston Martin Vantage, Lotus Evora GT4 and Ford Mustang FR500C were balanced as well.

Some teams didn’t attend the Balance of Performance, like Giudici Racing and Rangoni Corse. Alfab Racing from Sweden will test their brand new Aston Martin Vantage by the end of this month at Silverstone. Austrian Lechner Racing will do a shakedown for the new season at the Red Bull Ring.
