Tang closer to title
Andrew Tang claimed his third victory in the Toyota Racing Series at the Manfield track today. Neale Motorsport’s driver winning the Race 1 has taken a step closer to the 2014 title, grabbing a strong lead on 685, ahead of Damon Leitch and Jann Mardenborough second equal on 648, Egor Orudzhev fourth on 595 and first rookie Martin Rump fifth on 575.
Poleman Nick Cassidy, who set the fastest time in both the qualifying sessions, and Tang’s main championship rival Mardenborough, suffered mechanical issues on the grid. Cassidy was out of the race, while Mardenborough started from the back. Russian Orudzhev had problems too and was forced to start from the pit lane.
Tang took the lead immediately extending his advantage lap after lap. Leitch passed Ryan Tveter for second and maintained his position, while James Munro and Rump tangled at the esses on the second lap, both regaining the track.
Steijn Schothorst finished fourth. Mardenborough eventually recovered sixth, ahead of his team-mate Matteo Ferrer.
