Sowery impresses at his debut

British racer Toby Sowery impressed at his debut in the International GT Open Championship at the Estoril track, in Portugal. The 21-year-old, sharing a Daiko Lazarus Racing’s Lamborghini Huracán GT3 car with Italian gentleman driver Giuseppe Cipriani, started the weekend with the quickest lap in FP2.

Sowery also set the pole position on Sunday, in a heavy-rain affected Q2, when he set the time of 1:48.824, seven tenth quicker than second placed twin car of Jeroen Mul. In race two he lost the lead after the start, but fought for the top spots during his entire stint. After the drivers’ change, Cipriani got hit in the back of the car 16 minutes before the end of the race, which let him cross the line 12th.

Sowery showed well also in Saturday’s race one, when he set the second fastest time, finishing further back due to his car being hit in the back by a competitor, losing many positions in the field.
