Schumacher takes FIA F3 lead
Mick Schumacher continued his dominating weekend at the Red Bull Ring, by taking his fourth consecutive victory and the seventh of the FIA F3 European Championship season as well as claiming two more pole positions.
The German driver took a lights-to-flag victory in a rain-effected race one, moving up into the first place of the drivers’ standings, as his rival Daniel Ticktum finished eighth
Prema Theodore Racing team completed a perfect one-two with Robert Shvartzman, whilst Hitech Bullfrog GP’s Alex Palou recovered from seventh to third.
“At the start and on the first few laps, I had to defend my position from Robert. At that time, the track was still quite slippery and I didn’t want to take too many risks“, said Schumacher, “After that, I was able to pull clear a bit and tried to save my tyres as much as I could. I am very happy that things were going so well for me at the wet and drying track. And I am also happy to have taken the lead in the drivers’ standings.”
The 19-year-old son of Michael Schumacher topped also the second qualifying ahead of team mates Marcus Armstrong and Shvartzman. In the ranking of the second-fastest laps to determine the starting grid positions for the third race, the order in the first four positions was Schumacher from Shvartzman, Jonathan Aberdein and Jūri Vips.
