Sainz set the track record
Carlos Sainz (DAMS) claimed the best time in both sessions of the second day of the Formula Renault 3.5 Series pre-season testing at the Motorland Aragón track. Spaniard set the lap record of 1:38.340 ahead of Fortec Motorsports’ Sergey Sirotkin and Red Bull Junior Team driver Pierre Gasly (Arden Motorsport).
In the morning session Pietro Fantin (Draco Racing) was the first to go under 1:40s. Then Sainz set the new track record, while Gasly ended second. Fantin was third.
In the afternoon, William Buller (Arden Motorsport) dominated the first hour. Sirotkin was fastest at mid-session, but Sainz set 1:38.544 with six minutes before the end of running. Sirotkin and Gasly were right behind him, while Fantin and Buller completed the top 5.
We concentrated on performance and I am obviously satisfied. To finish first in two sessions is very important, but nothing is granted. There is still a long way to go. Our work has only just begun. I feel like home in the team. They help me enormously and give me the confidence to be a better driver. – said Carlos Sainz.
