Rump wins his first TRS race
After three of five rounds, Martin Rump is still leading the Toyota Racing Series championship. Just two points separate the Giles Motorsport’s Estonian from Briton Jann Mardenborough (in picture) and 11 from Andrew Tang.
Rump claimed his first season’s victory at Highlands Motorsport Park on Saturday, starting from the first row alongside the pole sitter Tang. Singaporean was slow off the line and Rump went through to lead by the first corner. Tang finished second and Ryan Tveter third.
Egor Orudzhev won a wet race on Sunday morning, leading by the end of the first lap ahead of Victory Motor Racing’s Damon Leitch. Tang had an other podium finish, while Rump hit the wall when he was thenth. Due to the damage Estonian, who was the fastest in Q2, didn’t start from pole in Race 3. Mardenborough made no mistake and scored his second 2014 TRS win ahead of Tang. Orudzhev crashed in the last lap. Steijn Schothorst had to to retire after a contact with Tveter.
