Pull to make British F3 debut
British Formula 4 title challenger James Pull will make his BRDC British Formula 3 Championship debut at the Donington Park season finale on September 10/11 with Carlin. Donington Park will mark Pull’s first competitive outing in the BRDC British F3 car; however he already has experience behind the wheel of the car, as he tested the Tatuus-Cosworth with Fortec Motorsports at Snetterton in October last year.
Pull, who was born in Singapore but lives in England and competes under the British flag, is a multiple podium finisher in the F4 British Championship and is currently right in the title mix, sitting in fourth place just 22 points off top spot with three rounds to go. It is Pull’s second year in the category, having competed with Joe Tandy Racing in 2015 before switching to Carlin for the current campaign.
Pull began karting in September 2008 aged eight and quickly impressed, winning the KKS AAM Malaysian Karting Series the next year. His success continued in Asia before he began to compete in both European and world-level karting events, finishing eighth in the KFJ category of the 2013 CIK-FIA International Super Cup and scoring multiple podium finishes in the WSK Super Masters Series. He then graduated to single-seaters for 2015, competing in MSA Formula where he took four podiums to finish 10th overall before making the switch to Carlin for 2016.
It’s going to be a challenge but I’m ready for it. I have done some testing in an F3 car and my times have been good so I’m excited to be getting this opportunity to race. Donington Park is my favourite track so that’s an added bonus for me. If I can get a couple of good results I’ll show my potential for next season – Pull said.
Racing director Trevor Carlin added: We are delighted to welcome James to the British Formula 3 team in place of Lando who cannot be with us. We’ve watched James develop and drive well over the course of the season in Formula Four and we’re pleased to give him the opportunity to race with us at Donington in the BRDC British Formula 3 car.
