Orudzhev dominates in Teretonga
Egor Orudzhev (M2 Competition) won two of the three races of the Toyota Racing Series’ opening weekend in Teretonga.
The 18-year-old Russian driver, who already signed to compete in the Eurocup F.Renault 2.0 with Tech 1 Racing team this year, set the fastest time in Q1 and had pressured Steijn Schothorst throughout the first race on Saturday, taking the lead when Schothorst’s car developed a misfire, winning in style. Estonian Martin Rump (Giles Motorsport) was second, Australian Jordan Oon (ETEC) third.
In Race 2 Orudzhev drew a nightmare eighth place grid start and powered through the field to lead before sliding off in the rain. Singaporean Andrew Tang (Neale Motorsport) won ahead of Briton Jann Mardenborough (2nd), Rump (3rd) and Schothorst (4th).
In the feature race Orudzhev claimed a flag to flag victory. Close behind him was the Kiwi driver Damon Leitch, who recovered from a harrowing start to the weekend when the wing came off his car in the first race on Saturday, sending him spinning into the gravel. Schothorst was third while Tang went out with a left rear tyre puncture.
