Nelson Piquet jr to race at Spa
With 25 cars on the grid confirmed so far, the second round of the International GT Open takes place this coming weekend at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit.
Several additions are awaited in Belgium: among them are the SF Racing Ferrari 488 of Fu Songyang and Andrea Caldarelli, the Kaspersky Motorsport twin car of Alex Moiseev and Davide Rizzo, the Wessex Racing’s Lamborghini Gallardo REX of Tomas Enge and Craig Dolby, and of the Aston Martin Brussels’ Vantage of local drivers Tim Verbergt and Sam Dejonghe.
Another name is that of 31-year-old former F1 racer Nelson Piquet Jr., who will be driving the Team Teo Martín’s BMW M6 pairing with Lourenço Beirão Da Veiga. Brazilian driver makes his return to the series, as he already contested the Barcelona finale in 2011 taking one win on an Aurora Racing Ferrari 430 together with Álvaro Parente.
GT star Jules Szymkowiak will also join the field. The 21-year-old Dutchman is subbing for Tom Onslow-Cole alongside Valentin Pierburg on the SPS Automotive Performance Mercedes AMG.
