Mercedes, Audi top Free Practice
GruppeM Mercedes AMG GT3 of Italian Raffaele Marciello and Briton Hunter Abbott topped the first free practice session at the inaugural round of SRO Motorsports’ Blancpain GT Series Asia.
Lamborghinis showed also well, with the Vincenzo Sospiri Racing Huracán shared by Croatian Martin Kodric and Thai Sandy Stuvik in second place. Third time for the other GruppeM Mercedes of Briton Tim Sugden and Dutch Jules Szymkowiak.
Fourth place for the other Lamborghini of FFF Racing by ACM of Italian Alberto Di Folco, who topped the charts with 10 minutes to the chequered flag, with the wet track, before being replaced at the wheel by Australian Aidan Read. The fastest of the Audi cars was, the R8 LMS of Malaysian Mitchell Gilbert and Indian Aditjia Patel, rounded-out the top 5.
The best of the Porsches is the one of Hong Kong’s Philip Ma and Malaysian former F1 driver Fairuz Fauzy (Arrows Racing), that finished eight. Among the Ferrari 488 GT3s the Spirit of Race car of Italian Massimiliano Wiser and Chinese Jiang Xin was the fastest.
In Free Practice 2 Audis dominated with KCMG team and the Sanghwi Yoon-Martin Rump duo, followed by the WRT Jeffrey Lee-Will Stevens. Third and fourth were the two GruppeM Mercedes cars.
