Marshall to make British F3 debut
Formula Ford race winner Max Marshall will reunite with his former colleagues at Double R Racing next weekend, 16th/17th August, when he makes his competitive debut in the Cooper Tires British Formula 3 Championship. Marshall is currently third in the Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain and heads into his F3 debut on a real high after securing his maiden outright victory at Snetterton 300 Circuit last weekend.
Piloting the Mercedes-powered Dallara F312 which has been raced to four podiums this season by Macanese driver Andy Chang, Marshall – who celebrates his 20th birthday next Thursday during the build-up to the Thruxton event – will team-up with Double R regular Camren Kaminsky.
Making his motor racing debut in 2011 in the national Formula Ford series at Donington Park, Marshall starred with Scholarship Class victory and he went on to add two more class wins from a total of six races contested. Switching disciplines to the British Drift Championship the following year, the East Midlands driver returned to single-seater action in Formula Ford in 2013 with six further race outings. Up until this year, Marshall also worked as a mechanic with Double R and team principal Anthony ‘Boyo’ Hieatt is delighted to be giving his former team member the opportunity to make his competitive F3 bow.
It’s great to welcome Max back into the team, this time as a driver! – said Hieatt – Thruxton is an incredibly challenging track for your debut in an F3 car but we know Max is more than up to the job and capable of a strong showing. He had a fantastic run at Snetterton in Formula Ford last weekend, it was great to see him take his first win as we’ve known Max and his family a long time. Although next weekend will be tough, he’s definitely got the skills to make a lasting impression.
Double R heads to Thruxton off the back of a sensational run at Spa-Francorchamps last month where Spanish driver Roberto Merhi, making a one-off appearance in order to qualify for the end-of-year Macau F3 Grand Prix, claimed the squad’s first wins of 2014 with victory in rounds 10 and 11.
