Mardenborough new leader of TRS
Jann Mardenborough is the new leader of the Toyota Racing Series. 22-year-old Briton claimed his third season’s victory at the Hampton Downs track today.
The Giles Motorsport’s driver set the fastest time in Q1 and won Race 1 after battling with Andrew Tang (Neale Motorsport) who eventually finished on second with several safety car periods and restarts. During one of them Russian Egor Orudzhev was judged to have gain advantage and then relegated from the third to the 13th position with a ten second time penalty. The amended finish order of the race brought Steijn Schothorst (M2 Competiton) up to third place.
Estonian Martin Rump missed important points and the championship’s leadership as he was involved in a crash with Croatian Martin Kodric and forced to stop after 11 out of 14 laps. Levin Amweg spun and had to pit with bodywork crimped onto a tyre. He returned to the track and finished 19th.
After the first of three races of the weekend, Mardenborough is 24 points ahead of second-placed Tang.
