Josh Cook scores double win at Donington
Josh Cook scored a double win at Donington in the second round of Courier Connections Renault UK Clio Cup. SV Racing with KX‘s driver produced an excellent wet-weather performance during the first race, to seal his first victory of the year by over three seconds.
Team Pyro’s Mike Bushell was second, after battling with Ant Whorton-Eales, who never drove the new car in the rain before. James Colbourn finished in fourth, 2.4 seconds shy of the podium places, with 20Ten Racing’s Jordan Stilp coming out on top in a fantastic battle over fifth place with points leader Alex Morgan.
Ash Hand managed to see off the Masters Cup class winner Paul Rivett in the fight for seventh place. Devon Modell finished ninth in front of Rob Smith who has some understeer issues.
In Race 2, that took place on an almost completely dry track surface, the SV Racing squad headed home a sensational one, two, three, four finish, as Cook took the chequered flag over two seconds clear of Hand, with Morgan third and Whorton-Eales just missing the podium by 0.6 seconds.
Jordan Stilp began the race on pole position, his first ever in Clios, but contact between the 20Ten Racing driver and fellow front-row starter Mike Bushell sent the Team Pyro car into the barriers. Resulting in the deployment of the Safety Car, when racing resumed on lap four Cook led a top six comprising Morgan, Hand, Whorton-Eales, the delayed Stilp and WDE Motorsport’s Rivett. An absolute battle royal raged for the duration of the 16 lap contest between the SV Racing quartet, Stilp and Rivett, with Colburn also coming into the picture during the closing stages.
With Morgan still leading the standings, the next round of the Courier Connections Renault UK Clio Cup will take place in two weeks at Thruxton Circuit, over the weekend 3rd/4th May.
