Jordi Oriola to race in the Seat Leon Eurocup
Jordi Oriola is set to continue his career in international motorsports this year, taking part to the renewed Seat León Eurocup with the Italian team Target Competition. The deal was possible thanks to the support of Cali Macau and the interest of Target Competition in having Oriola in their ranks.
In 2013 Jordi made the leap to the international scene, entering the European Touring Car Cup, achieving two victories, two pole positions and four podiums, and finishing the season in a creditable third place, being only 17 years old.
The team Target Competition, founded in 2004, has extensive experience in single-brand cars and championships, with their greatest achievement being the final victory in the ETCC Single Make Trophy class last year.
Jordi Oriola’s team mates for 2014 are Austrian Jürgen Schmarl and Italian Stefano Comini.
Oriola could also participate in the Asian rounds of the WTCC – Suzuka, Shanghai and Macao – at the wheel of a Seat León of the Spanish team Campos Racing.
I am very happy to make this step forward. The SEAT León Eurocup championship is very interesting and the car is very attractive and powerful. Target Competition is a team with a great track record and that was my main rival last year in the ETCC, so I’m honoured that they were interested in hiring me professionally. Undoubtedly, this year we are taking a step forward in terms of competitiveness and it will be a very interesting season. I also hope we can raise the necessary budget to participate in the Asian WTCC events, as this would fulfill my dream of racing at world level. – said Jordi Oriola.
Andreas Gummerer, owner of Target Competition, commented – We are very pleased to have Jordi on our team. He has always proven to be very fast and professional and our goal is to fight for the top positions this year.
