Chadwick wins MRF Challenge
Jamie Chadwick celebrated an astounding title victory in the MRF Challenge Series after a sparkling final round performance in Chennai, India. One of the hottest young talents in British racing is no stranger to winning titles and has now added another first, becoming the first female driver ever to win the highly popular MRF Challenge. This title win kick-starts a big year for the 20-year-old which will see her compete in multiple racing series across the globe.
The 2018/19 MRF Challenge Series started at the Dubai Autodrome in November where Jamie ended the event second in the championship, but 28 points behind vastly experienced Formula Renault racer Max Defourney. Three wins in Round 2 at the Bahrain GP Circuit in December saw her reduce the deficit to 18 points, but clawing that back in Round 3 in Chennai always looked a difficult task against such tough opposition and a competitive grid. With a determined approach, though, punctuated by superb position-gaining starts and faultless driving, Jamie secured two fifth places and three crucial wins, and fastest lap, to chalk-up an additional 97 points – thus opening a 37-point margin over Defourney and so claiming a deserved title.
Speaking after the final championship winning race, Jamie said: “I’m absolutely delighted. It was hard work, and very physical, especially in this 35C heat, but worth all the effort. We entered [the Series] quite late, mainly to get some winter training and race fitness, prior to the 2019 season. Some notable names have done MRF in the past and it fitted into my schedule. Of course, as soon as you get in the car you want to win races, but there were some good drivers this year, especially Max [Defourney] and he left Dubai with a formidable lead, so I knew I would have to dig deep and every race and every point would count. But we got there in the end. Huge thanks, of course, to my team, the organisers, Veloce Sports [management], my sponsors Aldermore Bank and Bloc Hotels, and all the local support I have enjoyed at each venue. It’s been awesome” .
