Fortec confirms three-car line up
Fortec Motorsports announced its participation in the Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS with a three-car line up. Representing the team will be Monegasque Charles Leclerc (pictured), Croatian Martin Kodric and Brazilian Thiago Vivacqua.
The British squad’s achievements in FR2.0 racing in 2013 included third in the Eurocup Teams’ Championship, a 1-2 in the Formula Renault 2.0 NEC standings and numerous victories in Protyre Formula Renault. ALPS see’s a new challenge for the team, with all three drivers stepping up to a full season in the championship from successful years in karting.
16-year-old Leclerc will spend his debut year in single-seaters in the competitive ALPS category. The youngster makes the step up from go-karts after racing in the KZ1 class in 2013, which culminated in a second-place finish in the World KZ Championship at Varennes, France.
Kodric took third overall in the Formula Renault Championship Autumn Cup at Rockingham in November, giving the young racer the confidence to make the step up. Recently the Croatian took part in the Toyota Racing Series in New Zealand where he got more track time in order to prepare for the 2014 season.
Vivacqua made his car-racing debut in the Formula Renault 2.0 NEC round at Most in August 2013. Despite race incidents playing hindrance to the Brazilians race results, he was a promising 14th fastest out of 35 drivers – only a second off the pace set by his experienced teammate.
Managing the team will be Martin Young, who will also be heading up Fortec’s Formula Renault NEC campaign. We are extremely pleased to be able to enter Formula Renault ALPS this year. – said Young – At Fortec we aim to support our drivers throughout their career and provide complete single-seater transition, from Go-karting to Formula One. Formula Renault ALPS is the perfect starting point for drivers and provides excellent experience on European circuits. I am confident in the combination of experience and potential in the team and am looking forward to taking Charles, Martin and Thiago forward in their careers.
