Fielding scores hat trick at Silverstone

Sennan Fielding claimed a hat trick last weekend at Silverstone, as he won all three races on the same BRDC F4 weekend. HHC Motorsport set the quickest lap in the qualifying and clinched his first main season F4 victory after a thrilling Race 1 which saw him pip Struan Moore to the line by just 0.191, with Arjun Maini third.

In Race 2 Fielding triumphed once more, claiming the win by the narrowest of margins, just 0.151s ahead of Petroball‘s Gaetano di Mauro, while Will Palmer stormed from 20th on the grid to take third. Rahul Mayer, who started on pole position after finishing in eighth place on Saturday, ended ninth.

In Race 3 Fielding had to fight hard for the victory with team mate Raoul Hyman applying late pressure to finish just 0.4 away. Moore claimed third, having run second early on.

Fielding’s perfect weekend of three wins and two pole positions means he moves up into third place in the championship standings, and just 29 points off leader George Russell. Lanan Racing driver emerged from a tough weekend with three top-six finishes. Sixteen-year-old Briton was fastest in one of Friday’s test sessions, but suffered a puzzling lack of speed when the competition began in earnest. He qualified fifth and finished in the same position in Race 1, which would be his best result of the weekend. Sunday morning’s second race began on a damp track, with a few of the runners selecting slick tyres. On his wet-weather rubber, Russell battled from fourth on the grid to pass Hyman for the lead on lap three, but the track was drying rapidly. George was powerless to prevent the slick-tyred runners from passing and he finished sixth, with the consolation of being the top wet-tyred contender. With the grid for race three decided by fastest laps across the first two races – and Russell having a damaged wing in the only dry-weather race held – that left him down in 10th on the grid for Race 3. But a rocket opening lap took him to fifth. He was passed by newcomer Alex Palou on lap three – the Spaniard using new tyres in all three races as he was only contesting this round as a one-off – and finished sixth.

The next round of BRDC F4 will be raced at Brands Hatch on 30th/31st August.
