
Fabio Scherer takes fist pole
Carlin’s driver Sacha Fenestraz set the pole position for the first race of the weekend at Silverstone, in the sixth event of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship. The 19-year-old Frenchman lapped in 1:50.571, ahead of Prema Theodore Racing’s Guanyu Zhou.
After topping free practice on his home track, Daniel Ticktum put the Motopark Dallara on third position, followed by team mate Jonathan Aberdein with identical lap times.
Behind Ticktum and Aberdein, Marcus Armstrong was classified fifth in another Prema Theodore Racing car. The New Zealander, who is backed by Ferrari, comes to Uk as the series’ leader, but is only one point ahead of Ticktum.
Prema’s Mick Schumacher ended up sixth. Behind him are Hitech Bullfrog GP racers Alex Palou and Enaam Ahmed. Carlin’s Jehan Daruvala and Motorpark’s Jüri Vips rounded out the top 10. The times of Fenestraz in first place and tenth-placed Vips were only 0.45 seconds apart.
In Qualifying 2 Motorpark’s Fabio Scherer topped the chart with the best time of 1:50.460. Swissman claimed his first pole position, ahead of Schumacher. Vips and Ahmed shared the second row. Armstrong and Ticktum finished in seventh and eight position respectively.
