Drugovich joins MP Motorsport
Felipe Drugovich has signed with team MP Motorsport for his debut in the FIA Formula 2 Championship. The 19-year-old Brazilian driver from Paraná steps up to the category on the back of a promising season in FIA Formula 3.
Drugovich became acquainted with MP Motorsport intensively during the post-season F2 tests in Abu Dhabi in December, where he ran on all three days at Yas Marina Circuit. Racking up more than 1,000 kilometres, the Brazilian ended up 10th fastest overall and the fourth fastest rookie.
“I am really happy to join MP Motorsport for my first season in FIA Formula 2”, said Drugovich, “We worked very well together in the Abu Dhabi test, and that gave me the confidence as a combination we can do very well in 2020. I can’t wait to get back in the car for the first pre-season tests and my first race weekend in FIA Formula 2.”
“Felipe did a great job in his Formula 2 test with us”, said Sander Dorsman, MP’s team manager, “He was eager to learn and improved every session. So when the moment came to sign him for the 2020 season, we didn’t hesitate one bit. We’ve kept an eye on Felipe ever since his title-winning performances in the lower categories, and it’s great that he’s now part of the team.”
After a strong national and international career in karting, Drugovich made his car racing debut in 2016 where he started out in the ADAC F4 series. His first single-seater win came in the 2016-17 MRF Challenge Winter Series before he stormed to third place in the 2017 ADAC F4 Championship.
Going on to ace the 2017-18 MRF Challenge Winter Series by claiming 10 wins on his way to the title, he also added another dominant title during the regular season. In 2018, he raced in Euroformula Open where he took an unprecedented 14 wins, 10 pole positions, and 10 fastest laps before stepping-up into FIA F3 last year.
