Cheever Jr. grabs first 2014 pole
Two Mercedes C63 AMG racecars prepared by R.R.T. swept the front row at Monza, in the opening round of the 2014 EuroV8 Series. The pole was scored by Eddie Cheever III on a Coupé model, as he logged the fastest lap of the day in 1:55.322. Less than four tenths of a second behind, the same-powered sedan car of team-mate Nicola Baldan.
Standing in third place tomorrow for Race 1 will be Francesco Sini, driving a Chevrolet Camaro for Solaris Motorsport, despite the American-built car isn’t well-suited by the Italian racetrack. The Italian racer showed some pace and scored a 1:55.885 to top Czech Tomas Kostka, making his debut for Audi Sport Italia. Max Mugelli (Team BMW Dinamic) rounded out the top-5 on the first BMW M3 of the field, followed by Domenico Schiattarella on his Solaris Motorsport’s Chevrolet Lumina.
The next rows went to Giuseppe Cipriani, driving a Mercedes C63 AMG for Hartmann Racing, to the two Team BMW Dinamic M3s of Maurizio Copetti and Niccolò Mercatali, and to Caal Racing’s Leonardo Baccarelli, also on a Mercedes.
Two heats are expected tomorrow: Race 1 will go underway at 10:00 local time, followed at 15:15 by Race 2. The series will benefit from an high-profile international live TV coverage plan including – but not limited to – Italia 2 in Italy and Motors TV in the pan-European area.
