Caygill to debut in the VLN
Josh Caygill will make his maiden appearance in the VLN Endurance Championship at the fearsome Nürburgring-Nordschleife in Germany on Saturday, 20th August. Netherton-based driver, a regular in the Audi Sport TT Cup, is switching to BMW power for his first outing in VLN and will partner highly rated Malaysian GT racer Jazeman Jaafar and rapid Scotsman Rory Butcher in the four-hour contest.
Sharing driving duties at the wheel of a BMW M235i Racing Cup class car, entered by Walkenhorst Motorsport powered by Dunlop, the talented trio will be targeting a suitably strong result as Josh aims to gain as much experience as possible.
With his sights set on a future career in GT endurance racing, the Briton is keen to enhance his on-track development and his outing this weekend in Germany has been made possible by his existing sponsorship portfolio in addition to West Yorkshire dealership Sandal BMW.
I’m really looking forward to this, said an exuberant Josh, Big thanks to Sandal BMW and all of my other amazing sponsors for helping to make this weekend happen. Racing in GTs is definitely the future direction I want to take with my career, so gaining the sort of experience I will this weekend in VLN is really important. My manager Tim Sugden has put me with two fantastic team-mates in Jazeman and Rory, they’re both top class drivers and I know I’m going to learn a massive amount from them. I’ve no idea how we’ll get on with results, there’s no track like the Nordschleife anywhere in the world, but I really can’t wait to get out there in the BMW – it’s a mega opportunity.
Team-mates Jaafar and Butcher are both widely experienced in endurance racing – the former is a race winner in this year’s Blancpain Endurance Cup while Butcher is a class winner in the GTE class of the European Le Mans Series.
Following practice today, Friday, 19th August, qualifying will get underway at 08.30 (local time) on Saturday, 20th August, with the big race beginning at 12.00 (local time).
