Carlin announce line-up for Zandvoort
Team Carlin announced that they will be taking a three car line-up to the 2016 Masters of Formula 3 at Zandvoort. FIA F3 European Championship race winner Alessio Lorandi will be back in his Dallara-Volkswagen and will be joined by EuroFormula Open racers Colton Herta and Ameya Vaidyanathan as they take on the annual event next weekend at the Dutch circuit.
As ever the Masters of Formula 3 is expected to draw large crowds as the stars of the future battle it out around the Zandvoort circuit hoping to be crowned the victor. Having already tasted victory this season at the Pau Grand Prix, also a highlight in the junior motorsport calendar, Lorandi will be hoping to add the Masters to his success.
Lorandi has so far enjoyed a solid season in the FIA F3 European Championship and has been racing hard as a regular points scorer. Lorandi competed at the Dutch circuit only last month and impressed with his speed – collecting a podium for his efforts in the opening race of the weekend. Lorandi said of the Masters weekend – I am pleased to be racing at the Masters with Carlin especially considering that when we raced here earlier in the season in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship we came away with a podium and a strong weekend. I think we can have a good race here and I’m looking forward to it.
Joining him in the team will be rookie Colton Herta who has enjoyed a strong year racing full time in the EuroFormula Open Championship, claiming an empathic pole position last time out at Silverstone, while also securing victories in the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship. The 16 year old American is no stranger to success as the son of IndyCar racer, and now team owner, Bryan Herta. Herta will make his Masters of Formula 3 debut next weekend; he said of the upcoming race – I am very excited to be racing at the Zandvoort Masters considering that it is such a historic race. I have a good team in Carlin behind me who I’ve been working with well in various championships and together I’m sure we can get the most from the weekend.
Also making his debut will be Indian racer Ameya Vaidyanathan who, like his team mate, has been taking on the challenges of a dual campaign over the course of the 2016 season. Vaidyanthan has already claimed a podium in the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship and has been competing in the EuroFormula Open with Carlin at the same time. Vaidyanathan and his team mates will have the additional challenges of Kumho tyres to get to grips with at the 26th edition of the historic race. Speaking ahead of the weekend Vaidyanathan said – I’ve heard a lot about how great the F3 Masters as an event is, and as far as circuits go, many people consider Zandvoort a favourite so it’s sure to be an exciting weekend! I’ve already done quite a bit in the EuroFormula Open car which has made the transition into an FIA F3 car smoother, but getting a feel for the Kumho tyres specific to this race will be interesting. I’m really looking forward to it.
The event will get underway Friday 19th August at the Dutch venue with the Masters of Formula 3 race taking place on Sunday afternoon.
