Caldarelli set to Super GT start
Andrea Caldarelli is ready to start his 2014 season this weekend (April 5th and 6th) at Okayama. The Italian racer is set to rejoin Lexus Team KeePer Tom’s in the Super GT championship, and the series will be off to a revolutionary season in terms of its technical package. Also, the laptimes are set to drop by 2 seconds per lap compared to the past seasons. The drivers will have to deal with turbocharged engines, like in Formula 1, and the race management will provide plenty of exciting action on-track. Caldarelli showed some impressive potential in the tests held during the last few weeks, as he stayed into the top-5 all the time despite the late assembly of his Lexus RC F compared to the other teams.
In the four days of testing between Okayama and Fuji we got some encouraging results. – said Caldarelli – We stayed constantly at the front end of the charts despite the fact that, as unfortunately happens in the last few years, we weren’t among the first to get the new car in time for the opening test. Anyway, despite the time lost to our rivals, both my team-mate Daisuke Ito and I were able to do a good job thanks to the valuable help from the Tom’s staff. I can’t wait to be back behind the wheel in what I expect to be a very exciting season.
