British F3 partners with Mountune Racing
The BRDC British F3 Championship has confirmed that Mountune Racing will prepare and supply brand new engines for the series from the 2020 season onwards.
Each competitor in the championship will race with the newly developed engine, bespoke to British F3, which will continue to be normally aspirated Duratec-based two-litre units producing 230 brake horsepower. The BRDC British F3 Championship will also benefit from the Mountune’s significant engine development expertise.
A comprehensive testing program with the new engine has been taking place at Bedford Autodrome in recent weeks, completing hundreds of trouble free laps in an existing British F3 chassis.
The new Mountune engines complement the already announced aerodynamic and bodywork upgrade package for the 2020 season.
Giles Butterfield, MSV Group Operations and Engineering Manager, commented: “We are very pleased to be working with Mountune as we refresh the whole BRDC British F3 technical package for 2020. Having worked extensively with Mountune very successfully during MSV’s operation of the FIA Formula Two Championship, we know they will supply a product that ensures excellent parity, reliability and performance. There are some nice component design changes inside the new engines that will confer some driveability improvements and make operation easier for the teams too.”
David Mountain, Mountune Racing Founder and Technical Director said: “We are delighted to be providing the BRDC British F3 Championship with engines for the 2020 season and beyond, and to re-start our relationship with MSV. This new arrangement with Britain’s premier single seater category will complement our highly successful BTCC and RallyX programmes, where we continue to enjoy unparalleled success.”
