Bleekemolen takes first pole position
Jeroen Bleekemolen took the first pole position of the 2014 Blancpain Sprint Series, driving the Grasser Racing Team‘s Lamborghini. Dutchman will share the front row for Sunday’s Qualifying Race with Belgian Audi Club Team WRT driver Laurens Vanthoor. His teammate René Rast will start from the second row, next to Peter Kox in the Blancpain Racing Lamborghini.
Mateusz Lisowski was the fastest of the Silver Cup drivers, finishing 13th overall with the other R8 LMS Ultra run by the Belgian Audi Club Team WRT.
Alex Zanardi, at his debut in the Roal Motorsport’s BMW Z4, finished in 14th, in front of his team mates Stefano Colombo and David Fumanelli.
It was good fun. We only had half a day of testing before the start of the season, so it is very pleasing to immediately be where we want to be: in front of all the others. – said Bleekemolen – It will be a close race however. Everybody knows that the Audi R8 LMS Ultra performs well here, and we knew beforehand that it would be hard to beat them. But we did so in qualifying, and now we will have to try and do the same in the race. It will be exciting, for sure.
I knew I had to set my quickest time in my first lap, but I made a small mistake. After that the tyres were gone, so there was no use in trying to improve my time. That is why I aborted the session a couple of minutes early. We will have to try and beat them tomorrow, in the Qualifying Race. – commented Vanthoor.
This is my Blancpain GT Series debut, so I am very happy with this qualifying result. – said Lisowski – Together with Vincent Abril, I will try to gain some spots in the overall classification during the qualifying race, but our main focus remains the Silver Cup. I am convinced we can do a really great job together.
To be honest, – said Zanardi – I was expecting to be placed a little bit higher – this is probably also because I am an optimistic guy and I was expecting to perform better. But I am very hopeful for tomorrow and Monday.
