Bentley, Camaro top the Blancpain test
The Blancpain GT Series 2014 season has started with the two-day official test at Le Castellet. M-Sport Bentley Continental (Kane-Leclerc-Smith-Tappy, 1:56.584) and the Reiter Engineering Camaro (Enge-von Thurn und Taxis, 1:57.173, pictured) set the quickest times on the first and second day respectively. The W Racing Team Audi (Ramos-Stippler-Vanthoor, 1:57.546) and the olther Phoenix R8 LMS Ultra (Latif-Sandstrom, 1:57.576 / Mayr Melnof-Muller-Winkelhock, 1:57.641) rounded the top 5.
In France there have been many news. The Paul Ricard-based JMB Racing Team announced its entry for the 2014 Blancpain Sprint Series with a GTR Nismo GT3, the first Nissan confirmed for the Blancpain Sprint Series. The Japanese car will be driven by two talented youngsters, Frenchman Mathieu Jaminet (19) and Israeli Alon Day (22). The both will compete in the Silver Cup class reserved for drivers aged 25 and under, as well as the Roal Motorsport pairing of promising Stefano Colombo and David Fumanelli, who share a Bmw Z4.
At the Le Castellet circuit Nelson Piquet Jr made his debut at the wheel of the AH Team Brazil BMW Z4 and clocked 1:58.407. The 28-year old Brazilian showed a lot of speed during thhe morning stint of the second day, before his team-mate Caca Bueno hit the wall, ending their day prematurely.
There were former Formula One drivers aplenty in France, as Alex Zanardi continued his work with the other Roal’s Bmw finishing in 25th with 1:58.561, and Giorgio Pantano shared the Bhaitech McLaren MP4-12C with Daniel Llyod.
A total of 47 cars were present at the official test days.
