BAR dominates China F4 opener
Black Arts Racing completed a dominant weekend in the China F4 Championship opener round, scoring P1 and P2 in qualifying and claiming two of three race wins at Zhuhai International Circuit.
In Saturday’s qualifying, BAR drivers Charles Leong and newcomer Louis Prette took the pole position and the second place respectively. Despite it was his first ever F4 race weekend, in the afternoon’s Race One the Monaco-based driver got off to an incredible start and managed to pass Leong taking the lead. With a battle behind them for the third place going on for several laps, Prette went off the track in Turn 7, dropping to seventh. Leong took the first position, which he kept until the checkered flag. Prette managed to finish fourth, in a car he’d driven for the first time just two days before.
With Sunday’s Race Two grid being determined by the results of Race One, Prette started fourth with Leong again on pole. Macao’s driver lead the race from light to finish, while Prette was hit while charging up the field and dropped back. Eventually he finished seventh.
Race Three featured a reverse grid, based on the results of Race Two. Leong moved up fourth from starting from the last row, while Prette held the second place until making an off-track excursion, coming back to finish sixth. Chinese driver Zheng Shangguan took the last weekend’s win.
BAR wrapped up the weekend with Leong leading the 2017 China F4 Championship. BlackArts Racing now leads the two major two premier junior open-wheel championship in the region, the Asian Formula Renault Championship and the FIA China Formula 4 Championship.
The next China F4 race weekend will be held at Chengdu International Circuit on 19-21 May.
