Bamber secures first Supercup pole

Earl Bamber secured his first Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup pole position for Fach Auto Tech. The New Zealander set 2:23.406, more than three tenths quickest of Nicki Thiim.

The 30-minute qualifying session turned into a real challenge for the 27-strong field contesting the Porsche brand trophy series, as heavy rain had fallen in Spa during the morning leaving the track damp in several places. In this condition Frenchman Côme Ledogar finished in third ahead of Sven Müller. The top ten was completed by Klaus Bachler, Maxime Jousse, Christopher Zöchling, Philippe Eng, Clemens Schmid and Ben Barker.

Four championship leaders go head-to-head on the legendary Spa circuit: Ledogar currently leads the overall classification in the Porsche Carrera Cup France. Topping the leaderboard in the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia is 18-year-old Italian Matteo Cairoli. Germany’s Christian Engelhart is leading the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland, with Bamber ranking first in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia.

Championship leader Kuba Giermaziak finished 11th.
