Auer claims his first win of the season
Lucas Auer claimed his first victory of the season in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship at Hockenheim. Starting from the pole position Kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport Austrian driver took the lead and went on to win from Edward Jones and Jordan King, who scored a double podium for Carlin. King clinched his third placed podium on the very last lap of the race as Esteban Ocon (Prema) dropped back from third to ninth place due to a technical problem.
The race started with plenty of action: on the opening lap, Max Verstappen and Nicholas Latifi collided at the hairpin and retired. Only a few metres later, the following collision involved Michele Beretta, Gustavo Menezes and Alexander Toril; Antonio Giovinazzi already retired on the opening lap. The clerk of the course sent out the safety car for one lap.
At the restart Auer extended his lead and Jones maintained the second place. Tom Blomqvist took the chequered flag in fourth place and moved up to only three points behind leader Ocon in the drivers’ standings.
