Ahmed claims British F3 title
Carlin’s Enaam Ahmed secured the 2017 BRDC British F3 title with three races still remaining, claiming his 12th victory of the season at Snetterton. The 17-year-old racer made a great start from pole position in the final race of the weekend, and despite immense pressure from Lanan Racing’s Toby Sowery, led from light to flag. His team mate James Pull, who was the only driver mathematically capable of stopping Ahmed’s championship win, finished 7th, after damage in race two earlier today compromised his afternoon.
Douglas Motorsport’s Jordan Cane secured his second victory of this year in race two, finishing ahead of Double R Racing’s Guilherme Samaria and Fortec Motorsports’ Ben Hingeley.
“It’s been very emotional, we’ve been working towards this for a long time and a lot of people have supported me. A big thank you to Carlin, Mark my engineer and my mechanics. Thanks to Trevor for seeing my potential and signing me this year and giving me a great car to drive. Thanks also to my parents and my driver coach Roberto Streit who comes all the way from Brazil to help me get better every weekend. I’m a bit lost for words really, it’s such a great feeling“, said Ahmed.
“We’re chuffed to bits. It’s nice to do it a race early, going into the last race fighting for a championship is a bit stressful! But Enaam has been perfect this year, apart from a small blip at Rockingham, he’s done everything we’ve asked of him. A great job by the team as well, who have provided him with a completely reliable car. We’re delighted”, added Trevor Carlin.
The final three rounds of the 2017 BRDC British F3 Championship take place at Donington Park on 23-24 September.
